Photographer GST & Finance Guide
Essential compliance rules, threshold limits, and invoicing best practices for studio owners in 2026.
Under the Indian Goods and Services Tax Act, wedding and event photography and videography are classified under SAC Code 998383 (portrait work uses 998381, commercial work 998382). The tax rate is 18% across wedding, portrait, and commercial categories.
For shoots within your home state, charge 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state destination weddings (e.g. Hyderabad studio shooting in Udaipur or Goa), apply 18% IGST based on Place of Supply rules.
GST registration is compulsory if your studio aggregate annual turnover exceeds ₹20 Lakhs (₹10 Lakhs in Special Category North-Eastern states). Voluntary registration allows claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) on cameras, lenses, and editing MacBooks.
Never hand over unwatermarked high-resolution raw files or luxury printed wedding albums until 100% of the milestone balance is settled. Studio Mithra lets you log partial UPI/bank advances against every booking milestone.
